With all of the terrible things happening in many state governments across the county lately, we wanted to do what we can to show support in the fight against discrimination and harmful legislation, while raising money for a good cause.
The AQYS is a free camp that brings together young West Virginians who either identify as LGBTQ+ or come from LGBTQ+ families from across the state, and give them the tools they need to organize and advocate for the issues they care about.
Over the last few years, many states have advanced a record number of bills that attack LGBTQ rights, especially transgender youth. The AQYS teaches campers how to talk to legislators, run effective meetings, tell powerful stories, and more. And, maybe most importantly, AQYS campers will get to be themselves for a weekend around people who understand them.
