Blessed be.
Blessed be.
There have always been dark times. Sometimes it can feel like heartbreak, fear, and hatefulness are taking over. But even in the bleakest days, love is what gets us all through. That might sound trite, but who cares. Love is an act of resistance.
To kick off Pride month, we’re launching this new design, largely inspired by the LGBTQ community and all the unsolicited judgment and bullshit they deal with. It’s also inspired by everyone out there fighting the good fight--from aid workers in war zones, to the random person who was nice and let us merge in traffic—we celebrate all the helpers and lovers out there!
The idea for this design came about after hearing our pal Lou Turner’s cover of Canadian singer songwriter Bruce Cockburn’s song “Pacing the Cage” recorded for a
tribute album. The song really got in Dan’s brain. He became obsessed and started going down a Bruce Cockburn wormhole. His song “Lovers in a Dangerous Time” really stood out. It unfortunately sounds so relevant now, even though it was released in 1984–during increased tension in the Cold War, the HIV Crisis, and the Guatemalan refugee crisis. Dangerous times for sure.
Sometimes it’s easy to fall down a spiral of despair and feel hopeless. Hate can easily creep in and fighting the good fight can feel overwhelming. But, in a time when people are treating others as less than, and trying to outlaw how others identify or who they love, it’s more important than ever to keep up the fight. “Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight.” We hear ya, Bruce.
